Macassar police are investigating a case of murder after a man was stabbed to death allegedly by his girlfriend.

According to a police spokesperson, members responded to the incident after two men reported a fatal stabbing in the Nyakathisa informal settlement in Macassar Village at the police station around 05:00 on Sunday (12 June). On their arrival at the scene, at plot 108 in Bermuda Street, officers found the victim with multiple stab wounds and called paramedics, who declared the man, identified as Justice Songezo Fergotienie (41), dead.

“At the scene officers were approached by a 34-year-old woman who claimed to be the deceased’s girlfriend and that she had stabbed the deceased nine times during a fight between them,” the spokesperson said.

The suspect was arrested and expected to appear in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court on a charge of murder on Tuesday (14 June). The outcome of court proceedings was still unknown at the time of going to print.
