Somerset West: The Helderberg Hospice Open Gardens Festival returns with an instalment which boasts around 15 gardens in and around the Helderberg basin (including Somerset West and Strand), which will be open for the public’s viewing from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 October between 09:00 and 16:00. These unique and lovingly manicured gardens provide a vibrant, yet tranquil place for visitors to enjoy. Take a stroll through these beautiful gardens and feel revived by the sense of calm and peace they have to offer. Weekend access allows visitors into all the gardens on all three days, however, for security purposes; the map detailing the addresses of this year’s gardens will be available only from 09:00 on Friday at Helderberg Hospice. Somerset West: The Country Craft Market returns to Southey’s Vines at 186 Main Road, from 09:00 to 14:00. There will be a wide variety of quality handmade clothing, crafts and art available, with each crafter selling his own wares. Refreshments are plentiful, with the chance to relax while listening to live music. Well-behaved pooches on leashes are very welcome. There is free, safe parking behind the market venue. Somerset West: St Paul’s Catholic church holds a charity book sale at its premises in Andries Pretorius Street from 09:00 to 12:00. Local bookworms can look forward to pre-loved books in excellent condition of all genres, including a wide variety of fiction, non-fiction and children’s books. Macassar: The Uniting Reform church Macassar is celebrating its 46th anniversary with A Gala Extravaganza Choral Festival at the church in Soekmekaar Street at 14:30. Among the choirs to perform at the event are the Uniting Reform Church Choir Macassar, Van Riebeeck West, Porterville, Sarepta (Kuils River) and Lentegeur (Mitchell’s Plain), the Uniting Reform Youth Choir Moria (Ravensmead) and Ladies Choir Sarepta, The Treble Clef’s Ladies Choir Eerste River, Winelands Chamber Choir (Paarl), Bosman Adama Farm Choir (Wellington), Messengers of God Male Choir (Porterville), Kingsmor Choristers Male Choir Lansdowne and Octave Ensemble (Ravensmead). The Uniting Reform Church Choir Macassar has also been invited to participate in the 2025 World Choir Games in Denmark and call on the community to help with donations toward the registration fee which costs over R25 000.
