Somerset West: A public lecture entitled, “Is theistic evolution compatible with the Christian faith?” will be delivered by Prof Gerhard van Wyk at Helderberg College at 17:00.
His initial scientific studies were in the field of geology where he realised the claims of macro-evolutionary theory have serious challenges. Later he widened his scope of study to theology.
After lecturing for many years at the University of South Africa (Unisa) in the Theology department, he has spent the last number of years in the USA where he produced his magisterial work entitled, “Hiding Behind the Fig Leaves – Deconstructing the Philosophical Fig Leaves of Liberals and Theistic Evolutionists”. He will give an overview of evolutionary thinking, from Darwin to the South African Wentzel van Huyssteen. Having lived in Somerset West for a number of years he and his wife look forward to seeing many of their old friends. The questions of people of different persuasions will be welcomed. Enquiries: contact Dr Bernhard Ficker on 082 881 4982.
