Gordon’s Bay: The Compassionate Friends will host a candle lighting ceremony in memory of children, grandchildren, siblings and babies born as angels and loved ones of all ages in the clubhouse of the Summervale Lifestyle Estate in Lemoenboom Street at 15:30 for 16:00. The annual event is held to remember those gone too soon, especially as the festive season has a way of bringing the dearly departed to mind and making us more aware of the empty chair in the house. The programme includes a slot for anyone to share a message of hope, a poem, letter, CD or DVD recording of their choice (maximum three minutes). There will also be some musical items featured and a special dedication video in memory of the departed. If you wish to have your loved one remembered in the special dedication video of The Compassionate Friends, send a photo and all relevant details via email to cey51155@gmail.com, or via WhatsApp to 084 551 1349 by today (Monday 21 November). Those attending are asked to bring a framed photo of their loved one along for the special photo table set up on the day. The event is free of charge, but a donation of R50 per person will be appreciated to cover costs. RSVP before Wednesday 23 November. Strand: The SA Naval College, in partnership with the SA Navy Band, hosts an evening of music at Strand Town Hall. The event starts at 18:30 for 19:00 and will continue until the festive atmosphere subsides. Tickets, at R200, include a welcome drink, finger foods during the intermission and wine on the house. Somerset West: Constantia’s favourite garden party, Constantia Fresh, is bringing its popular annual fine wine and food festival across the bay to the heart of the Helderberg, to welcome their own version of fresh this summer. The fresh green lawns of Vergelegen Wine Estate is where foodies and wine enthusiasts will be part of the second Helderberg Fresh Fine Wine and Food Festival from 14:00 until 18:00. Over 200 wines for visitors to swirl, sip and savour, while nibbling on gourmet small plates of food prepared by some of the Helderberg’s most talented chefs. Coffee, local craft beer and gin will also on offer throughout the day, while live music will entertain and soothe the soul. The cost is R750 per person. Somerset West: PNXGlobal (Pneumatix) hosts a food and music festival at Hoogeind Manor at 88 Mondeor Road from 12:00. There will be live music entertainment by great local bands, as well as the Intramural Training Centre’s Music Department Teachers Ensemble under musical direction of its Head of Department Winston Siljeur; food and drinks stalls, a swimming pool, inflatable games and face-painting for kids. Somerset West: The Helderberg Gordon Family Association hosts a ballroom and jazz evening with the N2 Jazz Band in the Somerset West Town Hall from 19:30. Tickets costs R150 per person and is payable before the dance. Locals are welcome to join in the dancing fun and required to bring their own drinks and snacks.
