Capegate shopping centre is transforming into a hub of festive joy this holiday season with the return of the Capegate Ice Rink inspired by Disney and the much-anticipated Capegate Outdoor Festive Market. The ice rink, which is open until Sunday 12 January, invites children aged three to 13 to skate in a magical holiday setting, offering 50-minute sessions for R70 per person, including skate hire. It is located at Bridge Court near Entrance 4 and returns for the fifth time as a beloved holiday highlight. Parents can skate alongside their children or assist from the sidelines, with safety ensured by trained professionals. Tickets are available online or through walk-ins. The Capegate Outdoor Festive Market, running until Christmas Eve (Tuesday 24 December), is set in the outdoor parking area near Entrance 4 and features over 380 vendors. The market offers unique crafts, gourmet treats, and handmade gifts, supporting local artisans and fostering community spirit. Additionally, festive photo booths and gift-wrapping stations are available, with proceeds supporting the Hyprop Foundation’s community initiatives.


FRIDAY 13 DECEMBER

Strand: The Strand Community Summer Festival takes place from today (Friday 13 December) until Monday (the 16th) at Harmony Park Day Camping Site from 10:00 to 22:00 daily. The entrance fee is R30 for adults and R20 for children under age 12. The festival will feature food and novelty stalls, live entertainment, and free fun activities for children. Organised by the Helderberg Youth Academy in collaboration with the Robert Sobukwe Nursing Academy, the festival is a fundraiser aimed at supporting sport and skills development. The organisers encourage community support for this cause.

Somerset West: Locals are implored to revel in the delight of the season to be jolly with a Christmas carols and extended market weekend at Lourensford Market at the Lourensford Estate from Friday 13 to Monday 16 December. Dive into the festive spirit with magical moments, live music, and holiday cheer on offer. Performances by Cape Town Opera Chorus at 18:00 on Friday, followed Hannes van Eck, who is set to enthral; the Jake Gunn Band takes to the stage at 12:00 on Saturday (14 December); singer-guitarist Dani Villé will see to a lively atmosphere at 12:00 on Sunday (15 December); and Albert Frost will rock audiences at 12:00 on Monday (16 December). Somerset West: The Country Craft Market returns to Southey’s Vines at 186 Main Road, from 09:00 to 14:00 as well as next Saturday (21 December). There will be a wide variety of quality hand-made clothing, arts and crafts available, each crafter selling their own wares. Kleinmond: The popular Kleinmond Ceramics Festival takes place at Corinne de Haas Studio, 14 Harbour Road. The exhibition runs from today (Saturday 14 December) to Sunday 5 January, from 09:00 to 17:00 daily with exception of the Wednesday 25 December. The artworks of 15 local ceramists from the region will be featured in an intimate exhibition space at Corinne de Haas Ceramics. Within the cube size of 20 cm² the artists are submitting works with gifting as the overarching theme. A maximum price of R1 500 for each item will ensure that there is something for everyone.
