๏ผSomerset West: The SOMERSET WEST BIRD CLUB invites members and interested residents to join its upcoming birding activities which foster community engagement with nature and promote environmental awareness. A guided outing to Lourensford Estate will be held on 19 July at 07:30. The weekend of 26 and 27 July will feature its Coordinated Avifaunal Roadcount (CAR). August begins with the club’s monthly meeting on Thursday 7 August at Somerset West Library Hall at 19:00, featuring a presentation on “Bird Ringing” by Dieter Oschadleus. A bird watch and count will be held at Paardevlei on Saturday 9 August at 15:00, and a guided outing to Hartenberg Estate on Saturday 16 August at 07:30. ๏ผSomerset West: ST PAUL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Andries Pretorius Street hosts its monthly book sale from 09:00 to 12:00. Local bookworms can look forward to great quality books, hot beverages and an indulgent selection of eats and treats. Card payment facilities will be available. ๏ผSomerset West: THE LORD CHARLES LADIES’ CLUB & BUSINESS NETWORK in association with Strong Schools presents a fundraising fashion show from 10:30 to 14:00 at The Lord Charles. The event will feature ACE Models Clothing & Accessories, Journey, various local designers, and Just Jackie’s Accessories. Tickets cost R400 per person and include a three-course lunch. ๏ผHelderberg: Celebrate literature and creativity with the third annual INDIE AUTHORS RISE UP BOOK FESTIVAL. This unique fringe-style festival will feature Fringe Fireside Chats across various venues in Gordon’s Bay, Somerset West, and Strand, including pubs, wine farms, coffee shops, and theatres. The festival will showcase over 40 indie authors and self-publishing service providers, offering something for fiction, poetry, and non-fiction enthusiasts. Events include fireside chats with local authors sharing their publishing journeys, sessions with writing mentors and experienced authors, valuable legal advice for writers and creatives, and a hands-on workshop exploring AI’s role in writing. Tickets are priced from R60 and include a glass of wine, with some events available free of charge.
