Local artists Stephan Cronje and Jacolize Swart are showcasing their latest works at Mountain Streams Nursery – Lemon Tree Café and Deli in Gordon’s Bay through the end of August. Visitors can view the exhibition from 08:00 to 17:00 on weekdays and 09:00 to 16:00 on weekends.

THURSDAY 7 AUGUST

Strand: Thursday is Pensioners’ Day at SUNSET BOOKS in Beach Road. The day starts with a knitting club knitting or crocheting squares for blankets and prostheses for breast-cancer survivors from 10:00 to 11:00. From 14:30 to 15:30, author Walter Volker will discuss his new book, The owls and shadow war: The inside story of military intelligence in South Africa. FRIDAY 15 AUGUST

Somerset West: Laureus Sport for Good ambassador Grant Lottering, who survived a near-fatal crash in the Italian Alps before conquering 1 000 km of solo cycling through the French Alps, will inspire Helderberg business owners and entrepreneurs with his story of resilience and practical insights on overcoming adversity in business and life. “From Death to the Top of the Alps – Grant Lottering Live in the Helderberg” is presented by the HELDERBERG SAKEKAMER at Erinvale Estate Hotel and Spa from 07:30 to 10:00. SATURDAY 16 TO SUNDAY 24 AUGUST

Helderberg: The third annual INDIE AUTHORS RISE UP: FRINGE FIRESIDE CHATS book festival will be held at various venues in Gordon’s Bay, Somerset West and Strand. There will be enriching sessions with writing mentors, candid insights from experienced authors, legal guidance for writers, artists and other creatives, and a hands-on workshop unpacking AI’s role in the world of writing. More than 40 talented independent authors and self-publishing service providers will be part of the event. Whether you’re a fan of fiction, poetry or non-fiction, there’s something for everyone.
