Somerset West: It’s that time of the year again, when Helderberg Hospice calls on locals to support its annual Tree of Lights, which is held as a fundraiser and event to remember loved ones no longer with is. While the festive season is a special time of joy, it can also be a time where many may feel their losses more sharply. Locals are implored to join this poignant celebration by letting your loved one’s name hang in lights on the tree in the Helderberg Hospice Garden of Remembrance; remember to include the names of fur babies who are also dearly missed. The Tree of Lights will sparkle with your love and memories from Friday 1 December until the end of the year. Names can be purchased online throughout the year and will be placed on the tree for the month of December. Gordon’s Bay: The Compassionate Friends, an international support organisation assisting bereaved families following the death of a child or sibling, hosts its annual Candle Lighting Ceremony at the clubhouse of Summervale Lifestyle Estate in Lemoenboom Street at 15:30 for 16:00. Locals are granted the opportunity to remember and dedicate special time to children they have lost, especially with the upcoming festive season. The programme will include: a message of hope; lighting of candles (supplied); a dedication video to the children and loved ones; and refreshments afterwards. Participants are implored to bring a framed photo of their child along for a special photo table, if possible.
