A case of fraud and theft has been opened against an alleged scammer who is fleecing residents locally in the Helderberg and also parts of Cape Town.
Strand resident Mike Waumsley, who opened a case at Goodwood Police Station after he himself had been scammed, described the alleged fraudster as a short Caucasian young woman with blonde hair.
“The bilingual woman goes to all of the pubs and clubs in the Helderberg and Stellenbosch areas, even as far as Goodwood, where she scams her victims,” he said.
Waumsley explained falling prey to the scammer who was selling fake raffle tickets under the banner of the Tramway Football Club. He apparently lost R1 000 in the process.
Michelyn Ohlsson, chairperson of the Tramway Football Club, said she had received calls from Bellville residents, who also claimed the suspected fraudster was trying to sell off fake raffle tickets. Ohlsson confirmed the club is not involved in the apparent selling of these tickets that is not linked to the club.
“A case of fraud and theft has been opened at Goodwood. I went to Strand Police Station to also open a case there, but was informed that if a case has been opened at Goodwood then it is pointless to open another case in Strand.”
He says the fraudster has been operating all over the place and needs to be apprehended. If anyone has details about the scammer’s whereabouts, they are urged to contact Goodwood police on 021 592 4430.
