Learners at Danie Ackermann Primary School in Somerset West were delighted to receive a vegetable garden starter kit from the City of Cape Town last week. The package included nine wooden garden boxes, seedling trays and watering cans. The handover was overseen by Councillor Gregory Peck, whose ward included that of the school before the newly implemented ward demarcations. Principal Mark Manus said the kits would be put to good use and each grade, including admin staff, will be responsible for a garden box. Peck said handovers were also conducted at Playway Pre-primary School in Helderzicht and Firgrove Primary School. “Each school may use the resources in any which way as a learning tool, be it to start a soup kitchen or inculcate growing and gardening skills,” he pointed out.
