The Tygerberg City Choir, under the baton of conductor Peter Roux, will present excerpts from the oratorio The Messiah, the well-known masterpiece composed in 1741 by George Frederic Handel.

The oratorio captures the deep emotions of the story of our redemption, and consists of scripture texts taken from the old and new testament. Among the highlights are “And the glory of the Lord”, “For unto us a child is born”, “His yoke is easy”, “His burthen is light”, “Since by man came death”, and “Worthy is the lamb”.

The choir will also perform a lamentation, Gallia by the French composer Charles Gounod, for solo soprano, chorus and organ, inspired by the French military defeat of 1870 and first performed the following year.

The talented choir will be joined by the soprano Hester Gey van Pittius and accompanied on organ by muso Arnold Miller.
