Determination and hard work paid off for police officers from the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) when they arrested and charged two suspects with possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition.

Both arrests were executed in Broadlands Park on Sunday 25 December.

While on patrols in the area on Christmas Day, the AGU members responded to information that led them to an address in Petunia Street.

On arrival they searched the premises, found and confiscated two 9 mm pistols with ammunition. They arrested and detained a 29-year-old man on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Shortly afterwards the same members pursued information indicating a firearm was stored at an address in Daisy Road. The AGU officers tactically approached the residence and conducted a thorough search of the entire premises. Their persistence paid off when they found a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They arrested a 17-year-old suspect and charged him with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

These suspects have already made their first appearance in the Strand Magistrates’ Court.
