Three dedicated mothers from Somerset West, driven by their innate instinct and desire to support and nurture children, are using their spare time and home kitchens to make a positive impact on their community, starting by nourishing its youngest members.
Anene Swart, Siobhan Brown and Monique Fourie have joined forces to establish Stone Soup, a non-profit organisation committed to feeding young minds by providing nutritious meals to learners at schools throughout the Helderberg basin.
“Our vision is to create a supportive community where every child has access to the basic necessities needed to thrive,” said Fourie.
“Although two of us work full-time we are dedicated to using our time and kitchens to achieve our goals.”
Inspired by the timeless European folk tale, the founders believe in the power of community and the incredible impact of small contributions coming together to create something remarkable.
“There’s the story of the Stone Soup, about a simple stone and a willingness to share a pot of water transformed into a delicious and nourishing meal. Similarly, we believe that through the collective efforts of our community we can make a significant difference in the lives of young children.
“Our goal is to ensure no child goes hungry and every scholar has the nutrition they need to thrive academically and personally.”
Therefore the determined trio with an inherent passion to serve by ploughing back into the community, developed the idea for Stone Soup last February. According to Fourie they funded the start-up costs and embarked on the registration process, which was completed six months later.
More recently, the NPO was granted its 18 A tax-exemption status, which means exemption certificates can be issued for all donations, providing a tax benefit to generous supporters.
Fourie said all that’s needed now is for the community to open its hearts and pockets to support the cause.
The organisation implores locals to heed the call for assistance by donating items on its wish list, which comprise food items, kitchen equipment, funds and other essentials needed to kick-start their welfare mission.
