Consider these tips to protect you and your loved ones from lurking kidnappers.

Instances of kidnapping or grabbing have increased over these last couple of months. Gordon’s Bay police shared tips that will make it harder for you or a loved one to be kidnapped.

  • Change your routine: Kidnappers observe their victims before executing a grab. Change your daily routine and make it difficult for kidnappers. Do not be predictable.
  • Don’t advertise your money: If you have money, do not advertise and flaunt it. Do not talk about your money in public.
  • Keep your family private: Do not share information about your family members.
  • Check before employing people: Double-check people before employing them. Kidnappers may try getting employed by you to gain access to you or your family.
  • Know thy neighbours: It is a good practice to know who your neighbours are. Keep strangers out of your personal space.
  • Emergency numbers: Store your emergency numbers on your phone’s speed dial. Also check with your neighbourhood watch and security company, and get their reaction numbers.
  • Be aware: Be vigilant of everything and everybody around you at all times.
  • Make a noise: Should it happen that someone tries to kidnap you, you should make a noise, shout, scream and kick. Whatever you do, do not make it easy for kidnappers to take you.
  • Be wary of social media: Do not reveal everything about your life on social media. It makes it easier for kidnappers to know everything about you and your comings and goings.
