The proactive efforts to address crimes impacting the economy have produced favourable outcomes, with the confiscation of counterfeit goods and the apprehension of three suspects in Lwandle.
Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for Lwandle police, confirmed an operation led by the police targeted the seizure of counterfeit goods within the policing precinct.
“During the deployment authorities raided an illicit manufacturing facility located in the Broadlands industrial area, uncovering its production of counterfeit washing powder,” he said.
“Executing a search warrant, law enforcement successfully confiscated a significant quantity of counterfeit goods, valued at more than R250 000.”
The seized items included washing powder, a mixing machine, brand stickers, and a scale machine.
Gama confirmed three suspects, aged 27 to 28, have been arrested and would face charges of violating the Counterfeit Goods Act 37 of 1997. Following the charge, the suspects are expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court.
