On Sunday (26 March), swift reaction by Lwandle police led to the arrest of three murder suspects.
They were taken into custody shortly after the apparent murder of a 29-year-old man around 06:00 on Sunday morning.
According to Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson of Lwandle police, the police were alerted to the discovery of the victim’s body by a passer-by and were at the crime scene very soon afterward.
“On their arrival the body of a man was found lying in pool of blood on the corner of Thukumbela Road and Vulindlela Street, Lwandle,” Gama said. “The victim had head injuries and stab wounds to his body.
“Police followed up on information they had received about four [identified] suspects having an argument with the victim and then apparently assaulting him with bricks, after which he was stabbed with knives.”
The three suspects, between the ages of aged 20 and 22, were arrested at different addresses and will appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court once they are charged.
A murder case has been opened while police are still on the lookout for another suspect still at large.
