Three house robberies involving balaclava-clad robbers have hit Gordon’s Bay since August.

On Tuesday 15 September Nova News reported on a house robbery in Firlands that had occurred the previous week on Thursday 10 September.

Four unknown men wearing balaclavas entered the residence in Clearwater Road and tied the victims up before locking them in the bathroom and taking their personal belongings (“Another robbery carried out by unknown men in Helderberg“, Nova News, 15 September).

Two earlier incidents have now come to light.

Constable Ndakhe Gwala, spokesperson for the Western Cape police, confirmed the first robbery occurred at a guesthouse on Thursday 20 August in Watermill Road.

The second followed two days later on Saturday 22 August at a home in Mountain Stream Road.

“In both incidents four unknown men wearing balaclavas and gloves robbed the victims,” Gwala said.

As with the Clearwater Road incident, no arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

The three Gordon’s Bay incidents bring the known total of house robberies on farms and smallholdings involving balaclava-clad suspects in the Helderberg to eight.

The other five took place in Faure and Raithby, while the Boland region had similar incidents in Stellenbosch and Agter-Paarl (“Robbers on a rampage across Helderberg and Boland farms“, 24 June).

However, WO Suzan Jantjies, spokesperson for the Somerset West police, confirmed their precinct has had no other house robberies on farms involving men with face covers since the last known incident in Raithby in June.
