Locals are advised of road repairs currently under way in parts of Gordon’s Bay and Somerset West. Work is taking place on Faure Marine Drive, Gordonia Road and Irene Avenue.
The road upgrades started on Monday 19 October and work is scheduled to continue until Friday 11 December. Specifically, work is taking place between 09:00 and 16:00 from Sunday to Friday. This is weather permitting and subject to unforeseen delays.
Repair routes
“It is great to see road repair work now under way on Faure Marine Drive and Gordonia Road in Gordon’s Bay, where we noted previous concerns about the condition of these roads. Work is also under way on Irene Avenue in Somerset West. The repairs include resurfacing, replacing damaged or missing kerbs and reinstating road markings. These improvements will help keep our roads safer and more reliable for residents and road users. Moreover, they will ensure that we keep Cape Town moving,” said Rob Quintas, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee member for Urban Mobility.
The road upgrades will be done along:
- Faure Marine Drive between The Water Way and Beach Road in Gordon’s Bay;
- Irene Avenue between Helderberg College Road and Harewood Avenue in Helderberg, Somerset West; and
- Gordonia Road in Gordon’s Bay, the road and embankment previously damaged during heavy rains will be repaired.

Stay alert
The City will work to minimise disruption while the repairs are under way. Road users are asked to slow down, follow temporary traffic signs, be alert around construction areas and allow additional travel time.
Motorists are advised to be mindful of uneven road surfaces and construction workers, and consider alternative routes where possible.
