The Help-Me-Network frequently hosts holiday programmes for Grade 10 to 12 learners and their June holiday programme was a big success as it was both informative and a fun way for them to spend their holidays.
Rozanne Lindner, a registered counsellor at Help-Me-Network, said this programme was rolled out at Rusthof Secondary School, Nomzamo High School, Gordon High School Strand High School, and from next term Hottentots Holland High School will also be included in the programme.
“Our holiday programmes for the Grade 10-12 learners this holiday focused on self-confidence and self-awareness, study methods and skills, CV and mission-statement writing,” he said. “We also expose the learners to the arts, such as visual arts and dance, as possible career choices and coping strategies.”
Throughout 2022 the Help-Me-Network conducted a successful career guidance and psycho-social support throughout with learners from Grade 8 to 12.
“We are continuing to provide these learners with support and guidance through 2023 and will be taking on new Grade 8 learners,” says Lindner. “Within these sessions we focus on topics such as goal setting, career guidance and applications to bursaries and universities, to name a few. We provide further support to the learners to assist them in coping with both personal and academic pressures. The learners will attend group sessions followed by individual ones with trained facilitators where their progress can be monitored.
There are also exciting holiday programmes for children where valuable life skills are taught and connections made. “These don’t interfere with their schooling, but rather provide an opportunity for success and to gain support throughout their schooling. We aim to equip the learners knowledge and skills to grow up to be productive and happy adults.”
