A juvenile accused of a heinous crime that claimed his middle-aged mother appeared in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on a charge of murder on Thursday (26 October).
The 16-year-old boy found himself in the dock following his arrest in connection with the fatal stabbing in Nomzamo in the early hours of last Monday (23 October).
According to a report, Lwandle police responded to the murder scene in Sithunzi Street around 05:00 on Monday. On arrival police officers found the victim who had succumbed to a stab wound to the neck.
The report stated the teenager initially alleged his mother had sent him to the shop to buy milk around 04:20. On his return he apparently noticed an unknown man in white clothes come running from their house. He claimed finding his mother dead on entering the house and alerting the neighbours, who in turn called the police.
On further investigation and after fine-combing the scene the investigating officers called the teen in for questioning, which was done in the presence of his father who accompanied him. During questioning the officers noticed blood splatter and scratches on the teenager’s body, stated the report.
It further divulged that further questioning resulted in the boy informing his father that he wanted to tell the truth. “The teenager was arrested after admitting to the crime and pointing out the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, and his blood-stained clothes,” stated the report.
The case was postponed to Friday 24 November and the minor suspect remains at a juvenile-care facility.
The murder incident was succeeded by another which called authorities into action last Thursday night (26 October). Lwandle police were alerted to the shooting by unknown community members who reported hearing several gunshots being fired.
The incident occurred between block 31 and 32 at the Lwandle hostels around 21:04 and claimed the life of a 32-year-old man. “On arrival police found the deceased who had succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. Thirteen empty cartridges and four rounds were found on the scene and seized. The suspects are unknown. No arrest has yet been made,” stated a report.
The police are investigating a case of murder and called on anyone with information which could lead to a successful apprehension to come forward by contacting the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Marius Erasmus on 021 845 2060.
