Round Table Somerset West 31 ran one of their popular R5-projects at Vergelegen Checkers on Saturday 27 May, after they were approached by the store to host the initiative.

Checkers donated R5 000 towards the project in coins.

“Although we where only able to distribute R1 200 in coins, we raised in excess of R20 000 in products to be donated to the Heartlands Baby Sanctuary and Helderberg Animal Welfare Society”, Round Table Somerset West stated.

The project entails handing out R5 coins to the shoppers, and in return the shopper purchases a non-perishable product and pays the difference.

The Tablers extended a word of thanks to each member of the Helderberg Community for their generous support and “lekker gees” when approached.

“Look out for our next project, Winter Knights, where we brave the cold and collect clothes and blankets to distribute to those who do not have a safe and warm place to rest,” they stated. “Also a big thank you and shout out to the generous team of Vergelegen Checkers for their contribution.”
