Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting that claimed the life of a Lesotho national in Somerset West on Monday morning (7 October).

According to Somerset West police spokesperson Sergeant Suzan Jantjies, the suspects were apprehended in Grabouw on Wednesday (9 October). “Police acted on information that led to a breakthrough and positively made the arrests,” she said.

The male suspects, aged 31, 32 and 34, were detained and charged with murder.

The arrests followed the brazen shooting of the 42-year-old deceased along Lourensford Road, near the intersection with Main Road, at 07:00 on Monday morning (“Killed in broad daylight,” DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette, Wednesday 9 October).

The suspects were successfully traced after police had launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, who were expected to appear in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (10 October). They were expected to be remanded in custody until their next court appearance. The next court date was still unknown at the time of publication.
