A man and his female friend were tied up and held-up at gunpoint during an armed robbery in Morgentser Street in the Die Bos suburb of Strand last Friday night (26 January).

According to police, the incident occurred about 19:00 when four men entered the house through a backyard sliding door as the man and woman were watching TV.

A suspect, believed to be Nigerian, threatened the couple with a firearm before three other suspects took them to the bathroom and tied their hands, before stealing items of value.

Among the stolen items was an Astra 357 Magnum revolver, two laptops and two cellphones.

The suspects also harassed the man to open the banking app on his phone, but it is unclear whether they managed to transfer any funds from his account.

Strand police have opened a case of house robbery, but no arrests had yet been made.

In a separate incident on the same night (Friday), police responded to a house burglary that occurred in Grey Street, Lochnerhof. Occupants of the home were asleep and woke in the morning to discover their home had been broken into. Thieves removed a window pane to gain access and took cellphones, laptops and shoes.

No-one was hurt in the incident, but police have opened a case.
