A 44-year-old man was arrested in Strand on Friday morning (5 September), after public order police allegedly discovered 206 units of abalone being stored illegally at a residence. The arrest followed intelligence reports about an abalone storage facility, which led police officers to conduct an operation in the early hours of Friday morning. Acting on information received, officers proceeded to a premises in Botch Street, Southern End, where they conducted a thorough search of the property. The search revealed 206 units of abalone being stored illegally within the residence, resulting in the immediate arrest of the suspect on charges of possession of abalone. The suspect was expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on Monday (8 September).
