Somerset West Primary School athletes continued with their excellent form and kicked dust in the eyes of their competitors at the Western Cape Primary Schools athletics meeting this past Saturday (12 March). Of the four athletes invited to participate, Canaan Eksteen and Taygen Koopman clinched podium spots. Canaan had the crowd on their feet when he set a new Western Cape record in the 100 m for boys under-13. He also won a silver medal in the 200 m, finishing just behind a Boland athlete – both improving the record. The Western Cape Province stretches from the Cape Metropole through to the West Coast, up to Beaufort West right through to Knysna, Oudtshoorn and George.

Both Canaan and Taygen will now travel to Potchefstroom where they will participate at the SA Primary Schools Athletics Championships scheduled to take place on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 March.
