Ballet legend Elisabeth Millington (left) has died after a 10-month-long battle with cancer. “Liz”, as she was widely known, bought her studio in Sarel Cilliers Street, Strand more than 50 years ago, following a professional ballet career with the Performing Arts Centre of the Free-State (Pacofs). She continued teaching at the studio right up until her death two weeks ago. Ballet was Millington’s passion and she taught hundreds of students at the studio over the years. She enjoyed many successes with her ballet students and her legacy is long and far reaching. Her love for ballet, discipline within the art form, and the tremendous love she had for her students will live on in all who knew her. Six years ago Millington joined forces with Maritha van Heerden (right) who picked up the reins to continue building on her legacy. The Gauteng native had studied with Joy Cooper in the Cecchetti training method until age 16. She moved to Somerset West and completed her Dance Academy of South Africa (Dasa) teacher training. She currently offers Theatre Dance Academy training at the studio as well as American Academy of Ballet and other like opportunities. For enquiries, contact Van Heerden on 079 030 5712.
