In the spirit of Easter, a season symbolising hope, renewal and joy, communities often come together to celebrate.
For physically and mentally challenged children, however, traditional festivities may not always be accessible.
With this in mind, an Easter celebration was planned by two Grade 7 learners, Simon Wiehahn and Tiago Pereira Carstens, for the youngsters at Gabriella Centre in Somerset West.
This event was part of their leadership programme at Somerset House.
Entertaining performances, like them telling the Easter story as well as Stefani and Anri Human playing violin and piano captivated the children.
The success of the event would not have been possible without the generous support of donors. Tiago and Simon managed to get wonderful sponsors to spoil the children and staff at Gabriella Centre, which offers residential and day care for physically and intellectually challenged children and young adults.
Fair Cape Dairies donated yogurts and milk shakes, Oceana Fisheries donated fish and chips and the Wiehahn Foundation sponsored Easter eggs. This was truly a magical and special day for the children and staff at Gabriella Centre.
In celebrating Easter, this special event not only brought joy to the children but also served as a testament to the power of community to uplift and inspire.
