Masincedane Community Service, in partnership with C-SHARP, the provincial Department of Health and Wellness, Nomzamo and Ikwezi Health Committee, Jerry Bobi Youth Development Projects, DS Sport and other community organisations, has organised the first-ever “Sport 4 Freedom” tournament.

It will be hosted from Friday 19 April to Sunday 28 April.

This tournament was arranged with the support of Department of Health and C-SHARP (Cape Town Systematic Healthcare Action Research Project) to celebrate Freedom Day (27 April) by uplifting the youth in the community through sport activities, ensuring health and wellness.

The event takes place in the Helderberg region at the Lwandle Sports Complex, Nomzamo and comprises an under-18 soccer, under-19 rugby and under-18 netball tournament, which respectively culminates in final matches to be held on Sunday 28 April as Freedom Day weekend celebrations draw to a close.

Live music, prizes, medals and food stalls will contribute to creating a weekend that celebrates sport and community involvement across the basin.

Health screenings will also take place, where the community health workers will engage with the community on the health-care services that are rendered by Masincedane Community Service.

Masincedane, founded in 1992, aims to help build a community in which unemployed work seekers with little or no employable skills training can develop their potential and are able to find and keep jobs.
