Gordon’s Bay’s Main Beach transformed into a hub of excitement on Saturday 1 November as children from the community gathered for the much-anticipated Sport Splash event – a free, lively day dedicated to fun, fitness, and friendship by the sea.

Aimed at children aged nine to 15, the sandy shore around the Rooiplein parking area was a flurry of activity, hosting playful beach sports including soccer, tug-of-war and touch rugby.
The successful event was organised by Gordon’s Bay Tourism. “Our goal was to give the youth something positive to be part of – a day to be active, meet friends, and just enjoy themselves outdoors,” a representative of the organsation said. “This is just the start; we’re building memories and a sense of belonging for every child who joins.”
Local support was instrumental, with Gordon’s Bay businesses contributing refreshments, sunblock, and prizes. Volunteers ensured fair play and safety throughout the day.
The day concluded with plenty of smiling faces and sandy feet, cementing Sport Splash as a new, successful tradition for the community’s youth.
The event was supported by local volunteers and partners including Kolskoot Radio, the City of Cape Town, Mountain View Spar, and the South African Naval College among many others.
