Lindy Officer, project manager of Mama Themba, celebrated her 70th birthday on Wednesday 19 June, with a fundraising event held to mark the special milestone.
The event, held at Yethemba Place in Gants Centre, Strand, aimed to bring Mama Themba’s staff, Thembalitsha Foundation colleagues, in-house volunteers and several leaders of volunteer groups who support the organisation, such as Helderberg Rotary Anns, Ladies-4-Babies, Hillsong’s Knit Sisters and the Coronation Methodist church, together.
In lieu of gifts for the special celebration, Officer requested that donations of baby items be made towards Mama Themba, a local NPO that provides education, support and care bags to mothers and their new babies at local state hospitals in the district.
Themba Training, the sister project of Mama Themba which provides skills training at Yethemba Place, creates many of the baby blankets for the organisation’s care bags.
A great time was had by all enjoying the barrister service of delicious coffees in the coffee shop, buying products made by local entrepreneurs and witnessing computer and sewing courses taking place.
