In a heart-warming initiative aimed at uplifting the community, Helderberg Community-oriented Project Service (Cops), known for its commitment to maintenance, safety and sustainability, recently partnered with Aanhouwen, a protective workshop for adults with disabilities. Their collaboration is not only about gardening but cultivating bonds and fostering growth in more ways than one.
Lee-Andra Smit-Koegelenberg, dedicated manager of Aanhouwen, expressed her gratitude for support from Helderberg Cops. “This partnership means the world to us,” she shared. “The planter boxes and seedlings they’ve provided will make a significant difference in the lives of our participants. It’s not just about growing plants; it’s about growing dreams and opportunities.”
Joelene Cloete, owner of Helderberg Cops, shared her perspective on this heartfelt partnership. “Our goal has always been to make a positive impact on our community. Aanhouwen is doing incredible work with adults with disabilities, and we’re honoured to stand by their side. We see this as a long-term commitment to contribute to their skill development and well-being.”
The six planter boxes donated by Helderberg Cops will serve as a foundation for a thriving garden of herbs and vegetables at Aanhouwen. The journey has already begun, with the planting of seedlings for tomatoes, cabbage and lettuce, provided by Helderberg Cops.
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this collaboration is the promise of time and support from Helderberg Cops. Joelene stated: “We’re not just dropping off supplies and walking away. We’re dedicating our time to be there whenever needed, to offer advice and share moments with participants, creating an inclusive and nurturing environment.”
Aanhouwen and Helderberg Cops have sowed the seeds of a partnership that extends beyond horticulture, one rooted in community, growth and unity. As they nurture these plants together, they’re also nurturing the aspirations and dreams of the individuals at Aanhouwen.
Through this vision the partners demonstrate the power of collaboration, compassion and what can be achieved when individuals and organisations, together, make a difference.
