This Mandela Day (Thursday 18 July), Checkers Sixty60 is calling on customers to support the NPO Meals on Wheels by donating non-perishable food items through the app to any one of five designated collection points. Checkers Sixty60 will match the value of all donations made until Thursday. Now in its 60th year, Meals on Wheels has 182 branches nationwide, including Somerset West, and serves meals to approximately 192 000 people every day, in this way helping to reduce food insecurity in communities across the country. Through the generous support of customers, they were able to donate more than R830 000 worth of groceries to Meals on Wheels in 2023, and – against a landscape where the need in the country continues to increase – the challenge is on to exceed last year’s contribution. Donations can be made by simply opening the Sixty60 app, going to the delivery address bar, typing “Meals on Wheels”, selecting one of the locations and placing your order. A special Meals on Wheels section on the app will guide customers in terms of which products are most well-suited for donation, ensuring all contributions are as impactful as possible.
