Curro Somerset West has opened its heart to the Street Store initiative as part of its annual Care Cause campaign for the term.

Street Store is a rent-free, premise-free, free pop-up clothing store for the needy, driven by the vision to reach out to the underprivileged and homeless people in society.

The Curro school community, including parents and learners, have donated winter woollens and essentials in support of the cause.

The greater community’s support is being called on for a Street Store, which will be held at Gordon High School in De Beers Avenue, Somerset West on Saturday 25 May.

Cobus van der Westhuizen, headmaster of the primary school, expressed his excitement for the immense impact this venture will have on the lives of so many in the Helderberg.

“People in need will be invited to come and ‘shop’ for clothing and shoes for free,” reads a media statement.

“It is well-organised, with a large number of volunteers assisting our customers with their shopping.”

Donations are being accepted until Monday 20 May, and items of clothing including shirts, trousers, shoes, jerseys, jackets and other warm items for all ages are welcome.

Those who are interested in donating some pre-loved clothes and shoes are encouraged to ensure all items are in a good condition, neat and without tears or holes. “We want to bless our people! Clean socks, beanies and scarves are also needed,” the statement further read.
