Police detectives in Lwandle are on the hunt for seven suspected robbers who targeted a Boxer Superstore in Lwandle last Saturday (3 June).

According to Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for Lwandle police, the alleged robbery occurred around 09:00 on Saturday when the armed suspects pounced on the store which is located at Somerset Crossing shopping centre along the N2 highway.

“Seven suspects entered the store and one of them pointed a firearm at the two security guards stationed at the entrance of the shop,” he said.

“Some of the suspects forced the guards to take them to the on-duty manager. Other suspects gathered 10 of the employees inside the shop and forced them all to go into the manager’s office.”

The suspects asked the employees to hand over their cellphones.

“The suspects left the office and took an undisclosed amount of money from the tills and a couple of cartons of cigarettes before fleeing the scene,” Gama related.

He confirmed a business robbery case was opened, and no suspects had yet been arrested. “We are requesting anyone with information on the robbery or details on the whereabouts of the suspects to call Captain Dhanabalan Pillay on 079 894 0119 or 021 845 2060.”
