With contractors fully in place to tackle mowing demands across the city, the municipal Recreation and Parks Department has successfully closed 1 614 customer service requests in the past two months, including the mowing of Radloff Park last month. The City of Cape Town confirms five service providers have been appointed and are servicing all grassed areas. Their contracts are in place until the end of June 2024. Each of the City’s four areas was awarded a main contractor as well as two standby contractors to ensure there are sufficient resources to manage the backlog. Also included in the appointed service providers’ contractual agreements is the provision for sub-contracting. After experiencing delays with the mowing tender due to appeals, the department has already initiated the process for a new tender to be in place after the current expires. “Mowing at City parks, sports fields and public open spaces is important in maintaining our natural environment within an urban context,” said Patricia van der Ross, Mayoral Committee member for Community Services and Health. “These spaces are very popular among our residents and visitors, to spend some time in the outdoors for relaxation, leisure or exercise.”Photos: City of Cape Town
