The intensity of armed response security was on full display on Thursday 9 October, as companies from across the province gathered at the Somerset West Pistol Club for a rigorous Armed Response Competition.

The event, designed to test the critical skills of “Reaction Man” security officers, put participants through a comprehensive gauntlet of challenges.
The competition assessed a wide range of abilities essential for effective armed response.
Officers’ fitness, shooting abilities, driving abilities and theoretical knowledge were all scrutinised in a bid to determine the region’s top security professionals. The demanding nature of the tests emphasised the high standards required in this challenging field.
Local armed reaction company Secure Rite Security fielded a strong team, and their performance was noteworthy. Several team members distinguished themselves, bringing home top honours and demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication.
The company celebrated the recognition of its officers, including Herman Ras, who demonstrated brain and brawn, securing first place in the Theoretical Test (tactical) and a commendable second place in Precision Shooting (tactical). His dual achievement highlighted a strong grasp of strategic knowledge combined with practical shooting excellence.
Elzane May was a standout performer, achieving a remarkable double-win. He claimed first place in the Armed Response Theoretical Test and also took first place in Advanced Driving (armed response), showcasing exceptional vehicle-handling skills under pressure.
Frans Levitt added to the success by earning second place in the Advanced Driving category.
