Danie Ackermann Primary School in Somerset West is celebrating a significant milestone with the donation of two new cricket nets, made possible by Hey! and Old School clothing.

It marks the first time in the school’s history that it has its own dedicated cricket training facility.

Previously, pupils were forced to cross a busy road to practise at Helderzicht sports grounds, which were often in high demand and occupied by other schools.

“The new nets provide a safer and more convenient environment for students to hone their cricket skills,” said principal Mark Manus. He also expressed gratitude for the donation, stating: “We are incredibly grateful for this generous gift. Having our own cricket nets will allow our students to practise more regularly and safely. It will also help us to develop a stronger cricket programme and provide more opportunities for our pupils.”

The donation is expected to have a positive impact on the school’s sporting performance and the overall well-being of its students.

According to Daneel Steinmann of Old School clothing, the donation was a collaboration between his company and Hope Explosion Youth Ministry (Hey!).

“We’re incredibly proud to be part of this donation and trust that it will have an everlasting impact on the school.”

His mom, Celeste Steinmann, runs HEY! and offers a number of activities on a regular basis at the school, including Bible classes and upliftment programmes.

“Who knows, maybe the next Protea will come from this school,” she quipped.
