With one match left in the regular season for All Saints RFC the charges from Somerset West have reached their first goal of the season, securing a place in the quarter-finals of Western Province’s Super League B.
Saints secured fifth place on the log following their 36-19 victory over Young Peoples at Helderzicht Sports Ground on Saturday (20 August). The local lads were in a very determined mood as they looked to glean as much points from the encounter in pursuit of their reaching their goal.
Heavy rains experienced since mid-week led to both teams having to contend with slippery and wet conditions, but this didn’t stop the Saints from playing the running brand of rugby to which their loyal supporters have become accustomed. They ran in a total of five tries and one penalty try to claim a four-try bonus-point.
Saints full-back Isadore Williams was, especially, in devastating mood as he crossed the whitewash twice in the match. Winger Duwayne Raubenheimer continued his scintillating form and also dotted down behind the try-line, along with prop Ewan Pieter and stalwart centre Cheslyn Jack.
Saints flyhalf Dylan Scholtz was on target with the boot with two conversions to keep Saints’ promotion prospects alive.
This coming weekend, All Saints will take on Collegians RFC in Lentegeur for their final league encounter of the season. The Somerset West team’s quarter-final opponent is also cemented, with the local lads having to travel to Belhar RFC.
