It was not a day to remember for Hottentots-Holland Cricket Club (HHCC) when they were outplayed by Tygerberg CC at the Navy Sports Ground on Saturday 18 November.
The home-side struggled to keep the pace up from the very beginning and were dominated in all aspects of their First Division A encounter.
HHCC batted first and only managed to score 112 all out with Irshaad Salie top scoring with 28.
Tygerberg did not waste time in their chase as they reached the target in only 13 overs with nine wickets in hand and in doing so gave HHCC one of their heaviest defeats so far this season.
This coming Saturday (25 November) sees HHCC’s first team travel to Green Point to face United CC and on Sunday they will face Brackenfell in a rescheduled league game.
In First Division B, Somerset West Cricket Club (SWCC) also went down when they lost to St Augustines at the Alan Olsen oval at Radloff Park.
The visitors batted first and despite losing wickets at regular intervals managed to keep the run rate ticking and mustered up a defendable total of 231/10.
Pick of the bowlers for SWCC were Robert Uys (3-52), Varun Kalidindi (2-29) and Ghaulied van Schalkwyk (2-37).
At the change of innings SWCC batsmen failed to cause much trouble for the visitors, and despite some decent partnerships struggled to get stuck into the game.
A score of 30 from Van Schalkwyk and 23 from Nigel Dirks were the only notable contributions as SWCC were bowled out for 174.
On Sunday (19 November), SWCC played the semi-finals of their Ama T20 campaign where they faced Bluebells CC.
Bluebells batted first and some excellent bowling by Robert Uys (3-24) and Varun Kalidindi (2-7) help restrict Bluebells to 99-9 after the allotted 20 overs.
Captain Larry Morkel led the chase for SWCC as he scored an unbeaten 50 and was well supported by Matthew Dickson (26*) to reach the target in the final over to hand SWCC a victory and a place in the final, which will be played next year.
SWCC will face Edgemead CC in a league fixture this Saturday at Newlands.
In First Division D, Helderberg Cricket Club (HCC) hosted Sherwood Mannenberg CC at Helderzicht Sports Grounds and were asked to bat first.
Gary-John Sylvester once again starred with the bat as he top scored with a contribution of 66, and was supported by Jody Sylvester with a score of 27 to help HCC reach a total of 179 all out.
HCC came out guns blazing at the change of innings and bowled superbly well as Damian Jooste (5-20) ripped through the visitors batting order.
Shane Fredericks (2-30) and Gary-John Sylvester (2-32) also contributed with the ball to restrict Sherwood Manenburg to 133 all out. HCC will play away to Mitchell’s Plain this weekend.
In the Second Division, Strand Cricket Club (SCC) were celebrating a memorable weekend after playing two games and winning both in sensational style.
On Saturday, they played away to Ikamva CC and scored a mammoth total of 528/8 in 40 overs.
Centuries by Thurlow Cloete (100) and Sharwaan Naidoo (136) stood out for the visitors. Ikamva had no response and were bowled out for 27 to hand Strand Cricket Club their biggest win ever.
On Sunday, Strand CC faced CPUT at Gustrouw and were sent in to bat first.
Strand CC again produced an epic batting display with two centuries, 100 by Adeeb Bailey and a record 143 by Yasin Januarie, to set a target of 354 in 40 overs.
CPUT went in to bat but Strand CC bowlers continued where the batsmen left off to restrict the visitors to a lowly 126 runs in their 40, and in doing so handed Strand CC their second bonus point win in two days. This weekend Strand CC will host Cape Forces CC at Gustrouw.
