Residents and commuters in Macassar are advised of ongoing roadworks along Macassar Road, as the City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate undertakes a significant resurfacing and rehabilitation project. The work, which commenced on Monday 3 March, is scheduled to continue until Thursday 17 April.
The roadworks will take place between Sandvlei Road and the N2 bridge interchange, with operations running from 08:30 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, weather-permitting. The City has cautioned that unforeseen delays could impact the completion date.
The comprehensive project comprises:
| Resurfacing | Milling of existing road surfaces and the application of a new asphalt layer. |
| Kerb and channel repairs | Addressing and fixing damaged kerbs and channels. |
| Guardrail replacement | Removal and replacement of compromised guardrails. |
| Pavement maintenance | Removal of encroaching sand from pavements, and the relocation and reinstatement of traffic loops and magnetometers. |
| Road markings | Reinstating all the road markings removed in the process. |
Rob Quintas, Mayoral Committee member for Urban Mobility, emphasised the importance of regular road maintenance for the city’s infrastructure. “I would like to thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding while we are busy on this project. Regular road maintenance is required to ensure the longevity of the city’s road network and to keep Cape Town moving. The end result is good-quality roads for all in Macassar.”
He urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution when travelling between Sandvlei Road and the N2 bridge interchange, and consider using alternative routes where possible to minimise disruption. The City of Cape Town apologised for any inconvenience caused during this essential upgrade and appreciates the public’s cooperation.
