Protesters continuing demonstration with Palestinian flags despite ceasefire agreement
Strand 4 Palestine still raising their voice even after ceasefire.

Every Saturday Palestinian flags flutter on the corner of Main Road and Fagan Street in Strand, as residents refuse to let the world forget about Gaza.

The weekly demonstration began in May 2024 when sisters Lateefa and Sawbirah Tambala started Strand 4 Palestine to support the cause locally without travelling to the Cape Town CBD.

Despite a ceasefire since October, the group continues picketing, believing the peace agreement remains hollow.

Most road users hooted in support, though Lateefa admitted they have also faced pushback. Some shouted curses while others made obscene gestures.

But the activists remain confident their picket is making a difference, believing what they do echoes 7 600 km away, across the Indian Ocean.
