Following a successful two months with five wins against tough opposition, the MC Boys welcomed Masiphumelele RFC to Riverside Park on Saturday afternoon looking to continue their streak.
The half-back pairing of Garth de Bruin and Ashwin Davids put the MC Boys on the counter-attack, as the Macassar-based team beat the Noordhoek-based Masiphumelele 59-18 to extend their winning streak in Western Province Super League C to six matches.
Despite their lowly league position, the visitors brought with them a number of dangerous attacking players, but the home side’s clinical prowess was too smart as the MC boys claimed the full bag of points.
Conditions were again not conducive to an expansive game due to a wet and muddy underfoot, but Macassar were determined to improve on their game following an impressive showing against Blue Stars RFC a fortnight ago.
In a blistering start to the game, inside centre Howard Lottering crossed over for a converted try after just two minutes of play. The clinical attacking play from the home side set the tone for the remaining of the first half. Outside centre Dylan Jafta stole the show with a first-half brace, as the MC Boys closed out the first stanza with an impressive 40-8 lead.
Much of the second period belonged to the visitors as they tried to put respect to the first half blitz from the home side, while the home side’s impact players got an extended run in an attempt to get some much-needed game time.
The men from Noordhoek were a lot more clinical at the set pieces in the second half, forcing the MC Boys to concede two tries in quick succession, but the home side remained calm and cool under pressure and added three more scores through captain Clint Stewart, Tyrone Hoffmeester and Ashwin Davids.
Davids showed why is the first choice in his position and winger Zenodene Isaacs also impressed as he made his return to the match day fifteen.
Macassar go into a much-needed break this week before they return for a home fixture against Pniel Villagers on Saturday 8 July.
