Danielle Kleyn, a Grade 12 learner at Parel Vallei High School, participated in the 2020 Computer Programming Olympiad. Well-known for her mathematical abilities and dubbed the Pan-African “Queen of Mathematics”, she was placed second overall in the Western Cape out of 824 participants. The olympiad is a challenge for learners, who can use a programming language such as Scratch, Python, Java, C++ or Delphi. In the first round, learners had to solve problems using the language of their choice. For the second and final round, the languages were more restricted and the Olympiad competitive and challenging.
