The English department of Parel Vallei High School is proud to announce that Caro Botha, a Grade 12 Afrikaans learner, has achieved a top 15 position in this year’s De Beers English Olympiad.

This is an outstanding achievement, as there were more than 5 700 national participants in the competition this year. It also confirms Caro’s gift and passion for English.

Caro chose English as home language and enjoys A-levels in English literature through the school’s Advanced Education Trust, to further enrich herself.

As part of her prize, she is invited to attend the 2019 National Schools Festival in Grahamstown from 25 to 30 June, courtesy of the De Beers English Olympiad.

This festival entails a five-day programme of activities and workshops that celebrates the arts.

The ranking order of the Top 15 learners will be announced at the English Olympiad prize-giving ceremony on Saturday 29 June.

The top-three learners will each receive a cash prize – that varies from R27 000 to R33 000 – and those ranked fourth to 15th will also be rewarded with a cash prize and book vouchers.
