Parel Vallei High School learners Akum Mbira (Grade 8, left) and Courtney Jenniker (Grade 10) have both been selected for the Boland under-16 girls cricket team, which will participate in the National Youth Tournament in Gqeberha from Monday 13 to Friday 17 December. Courtney started playing cricket at age seven and quickly made her mark as a very talented batter and wicket keeper. She was also selected for the Western Province team in 2017 and 2018. Fourteen-year-old Akum took up the sport in Grade 7 and will do provincial duty as a spin bowler. The cricketing duo’s selection to the Boland team brings the total provincial cricket players for PV to four this year, with David Botes selected for the Boland under-16 boys team and Sibulele Makeleni for the Boland under-17 boys rural team.
