The cycling team of Parel Vallei High School have been raking in the awards at various cycling events in the Cape. The team was crowned the overall winner of the Western Cape Inter-schools MTB XCM (cross country marathon) event held in Montagu on Saturday 4 September, while Angeliq Coetzer (first), Vincent Buter (second), Jean-Marc de Beer (fourth), Nikalau Volsteedt (fourth) and Zander Compion (fifth) also claimed top places in their divisions. Vincent (Grade 11) also won first place in the men’s race of the Fedhealth MTB Challenge Half Marathon, while Angeliq won the women’s race. Jean-Marc de Beer finished fourth overall and second in the junior men’s category. Nikalau competed in the SA MTB XCO Championships in Pietermaritzburg, where she came fifth and Jean-Marc came second in the Val de Vie MTB 45 km event. Both Jean Marc and Nikalau will also participate in the 43rd edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour covering a distance of 109 km.
