Lwandle police are searching for a suspect in an accident that occurred on the evening of Saturday 24 September.
The motorcyclist apparently sped past a police vehicle and then ran into a pedestrian, who landed on the bonnet of the same police vehicle.
Furthermore, an informant who spoke to DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette on condition of anonymity, alleges the same motorcyclist was involved in an accident later that same night and was transported to hospital after the incident.
Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for the Lwandle police, said a case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated following the incident which took place near the Onverwacht Road turn-off on the N2 highway.
“It is alleged a motorcyclist was driving on the N2 and overtook a police vehicle and knocked over a pedestrian,” he said. “The 25-year-old pedestrian from Nomzamo flew into the air on collision and landed on top of the police vehicle’s bonnet. The man sustained multiple injuries.”
He was transported to Tygerberg Hospital for further treatment.
DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette investigated an accident that occurred at 22:00 that same night, in which the alleged perpetrator injured his leg.
According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring a man sustained a fracture to one of his legs after a motorcycle apparently fell on top of him along Roos Street in Gordon’s Bay.
He confirmed the man was transported to Helderberg Hospital for further treatment.
André Botes, who lives in Gordon’s Bay, confirms he was the biker in the incident in Roos Street, but said he was not involved in the pedestrian accident on the N2.
He did not wish to give any additional comment, but confirmed he was not the alleged perpetrator and was in no way connected to the accident that had taken place earlier that night.
“A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened and we are still on the lookout for a suspect,” said Gama. “Anyone with more information is requested to contact Captain Lenny Pillay on 079 894 0119 or 021 845 2060.”
