The Gordon’s Bay Business Association (GBBA) hosted its first beach clean-up of 2025 at Fleur Park Beach, in collaboration with local organisations and residents, last Wednesday (29 January). Rolling up their sleeves for the clean-up (behind from left) were Amelda Roex, Lisa Groves (Homelink Estates), Frans van Dyk, Cobus van Dyk, Joos Engelbrecht (JE Attorneys Inc.), Mariadla Coetzee and Christel van Dyk (JE Attorneys Inc.). Volunteers collected litter that could harm the environment or pose a danger to beachgoers, filling dirt bags and disposing of them safely. Mariadla Coetzee ensured that she placed a piece of litter into her bag, while Cimone Roos and Amelda Roex rummaged through the sand.

The clean-up wasn’t just about hard work and volunteers doing their bit for the environment. Participants also enjoyed the scenic Gordon’s Bay sunset. Amelda Roex paused to snap photo of a mother duck and her duckling enjoying the sea.

A local dog joined in on the cleaning action, adding to the lively atmosphere. Lisa Groves is pictured with her little helper, Bailey, who was recently adopted and had experienced the beach for the first time.

Team leader Taryn Flee, pictured with litter collected on the day, said the operation was only the beginning of similar projects. “We are planning more clean-ups and hope to tackle areas in need of some extra care.”
