Ilse le Roux, Anje Hanekom and Mike Wessels were among locals who rolled up their sleeves to participate in the annual Lourens River clean-up held in memory of 12-year-old Krynauw Serdyn, who died tragically in 2016 after being shocked to death while playing outside in the rain. The clean-up took place on Saturday (20 January) with the support of friends, family, the Strand Neighbourhood Watch, Secure Rite Security and members of Strand police. About 50 participants united, as they do every year, to remember Krynauw – who would have celebrated his 20th birthday on Friday (19 January) – and his passion for the environment and nature. Participants noted that afterwards there was significantly less litter along the banks bordering the Goede Hoop suburb, which indicates that the war against litter is slowly but surely being won.Photos: Yaseen Gaffar
