On Monday (24 April), the choirs of Beaumont and Hendrik Louw Primary School featured alongside acclaimed musician Jak de Priester.

Teacher Louzanne de Villiers ensured the Summies choir members not only sounded the part, but also looked it while on-stage with the acclaimed musician. The much anticipated choral delight with Jak de Priester coincided with De Villiers’ birthday.
Among VIP guests seated in the audience was Somerset West Primary School deputy principal Herman Poole, accompanied by his wife, Charmaine.
Summies teacher Lieze de Villiers helped keep all the excitement at bay until the eagerly awaited start of the choir showcase.
Somerset West Primary School’s junior choir in singing action. They delivered mesmerizing renditions of “Puppet on a string” by Martin and Coulter, the traditional lullaby “Twinkle, twinkle little star”, and “Hanover Straat” by Anton Goosen. The conductor was Gheta Grobler.
Somerset West Primary School’s senior choir during their animated renditions of “Ipi Tombi” followed by moving performances of “Just a single voice” by Albrecht and Althouse and “Let the river run” by Carly Simon.


De Hoop Primary School’s junior choir entertained the audience with excellent performances of “Jesus wants me as I am” by Mae and Vagle, “Ma Bella Bimba” by Verdi and “Die dapper muis” by Misheiker. The conductor is Liesel Ferreira.
De Hoop Primary School’s senior choir amazed with their choral versions of “Psalm 23”, “Longest time/I only want you” by Joel and Raymonde, and “Ghoema-lied”.


The Parel Vallei High School Dal Cuore and Choir tugged at the heartstrings of every audience member with their beautiful performances of “Summer time” by George Gershwin, “White winter hymnal” by F Foxes, “I will sing with the spirit” by J Rutter, and “Bohemian rhapsody” by Freddie Mercury. The conductor is Johlané van Niekerk and accompanist Winand Grundling.


Marissa van Wyk expressed her heartfelt thanks to the hosting school and the conductors and accompanists who contributed to the choir evening’s success.
